The Invisible Noose

A bored 13 year old boy named Tommy ties a nearly invisible fishing line between two oak trees on a quiet rural road at dusk, hoping to watch cars jolt or bikers swerve for laughs. He hides in the bushes with his phone, filming. The first vehicle that hits it is a motorcycle ridden by a helmet-less man speeding home from a night shift. The line slices across his throat like a cheese wire. Tommy watches in frozen horror as the rider’s head stays on for a few seconds before tumbling off, the body riding another 50 yards before crashing.

Instead of confessing, Tommy removes the line and flees. But the next night, he finds fresh line tied in the exact same spot. Thicker, stronger, and coated in something dark making it more difficult to see. He starts receiving anonymous videos on his phone of the decapitation from different angles, including one clearly filmed from where he was hiding. The pranks escalate: more riders die, always at night, always on that stretch. Tommy realizes someone or something is continuing his joke and framing him, or worse using his guilt to lure him back to the trees.

On the day his father was to return home after being away for months, Tommy went the exact spot to see if it was safe. Upon reaching there, he was met by the headless body of his father and elder brother who fell victim to the fishing line. He later confess and admitted to the first incident but denied the ones that followed. No one believed him claiming he’s only sorry because his father and brother were affected.
