Garden Wars
What began as a friendly neighbourhood garden competition quickly turned into a bitter battle for the title of Best Garden on the Block. Every morning, neighbours rushed outside to water their flowers, trim their hedges, and show off their newest plants. But as the competition intensified, so did their jealousy. One neighbour introduced mint that spread uncontrollably through the surrounding gardens, while another planted bamboo that crept beneath fences and cracked garden paths. Soon, the once peaceful neighbourhood was divided into rival camps, with accusations of sabotage flying between houses. Determined to win at any cost, some residents began growing dangerous ornamental plants, including deadly nightshade and oleander, caring more about intimidating their rivals than the safety of their community.
Within weeks, the consequences became impossible to ignore. Several neighbors fell seriously ill, and rumors spread that the gardens were responsible. The competition was suspended, but suspicion had already taken root. Everyone began watching everyone else, searching for evidence of poisoned flowers, contaminated soil, or deliberate tampering. At the center of the growing chaos was Mr Lin. A quiet, bitter man who had spent years feuding with his next door neighbor, Mr. Arthur, over an old property dispute. When Arthur became one of the people who fell ill, Lin saw an opportunity to settle their feud without anyone suspecting him. He hid his satisfaction behind the same concerned expression he wore whenever the neighbors gathered to discuss the mysterious illnesses.
But Lin had underestimated how quickly a garden could reveal its secrets. When a young neighbor noticed that the plants near Arthur's fence had been disturbed, she began piecing together the strange events surrounding the competition. A local botanist confirmed that several plants posed serious health risks, and investigators soon discovered evidence that the illness might not have been accidental. As the neighborhood gathered for what was supposed to be the final awards ceremony, the competition's darkest secret threatened to emerge. The question was no longer who had the best garden, but who had turned a harmless contest into a nightmare and whether Lin’s old feud would finally be exposed before another neighbor suffered.
