Don’t Blink
At 2:47 a.m., the whistle came again, but this time James was ready. He stood in the hallway with Liam beside him, both holding heavy wooden bats. At the end of the corridor stood the suited man, perfectly still, his black eyes fixed on them.
“You really think you can fight me?”
He whispered. James looked at Liam and nodded. Liam suddenly threw a glass against the wall, making the man turn his head for a split second. James charged. The bat slammed into the man's shoulder, sending him crashing against the wall. Liam immediately struck him across the back. The suited man screamed not like a human, but like several voices shouting at once. For the first time, the terrifying figure looked afraid.
They attacked him together. James struck his legs while Liam hit his arms, forcing him to the floor. Every time one of them blinked, the man tried to disappear, but the other kept attacking.
“Don't let him stand up!”
James shouted. The suited man crawled toward the darkness at the end of the hallway, but Liam grabbed his ankle and dragged him back. James swung the bat one final time, hitting him across the face. The man's body suddenly cracked like glass. A dark substance poured from his mouth as his eyes turned completely white. He let out one final whistle before collapsing. For several seconds, neither James nor Liam moved. Then James kicked the man's body. Nothing happened.
“I think he's dead,”
Liam whispered. James stared at the motionless figure.
“No, I think he's finally scared.”
He said. They dragged the suited man outside and chained him to the old iron fence behind the house. As the sun began rising, his body started smoking. His black suit slowly burned away, revealing nothing underneath. Not skin, not bones, just an empty human shaped shadow. James and Liam watched as the shadow shrank until it disappeared completely. They thought it was over. Then Liam noticed something lying on the ground where the man had been. It was a small black watch displaying 2:47 a.m. James picked it up. The second hand wasn't moving. Suddenly, the watch began ticking backward. James looked at Liam.
“Don't tell me…”
Before Liam could answer, the clock struck 2:47 again and from somewhere behind them came the familiar whistle. Standing at the far end was another suited man. Liam laughed a little and said.
“We can do this all night “
